District B-13 is a first rate French action movie that any action movie enthusiast would want to watch over and over.
District B-13 is Co-Produced and Co-Written by Luc Besson who produced the "Transporter" franchise, wrote "The Fifth Element", and tons of other movies.
This movie incorporates the athletic style of parkour, which is executed in this movie without any wires or special effects. If you haven't seen parkour done by a master, you really need to see District B-13.
The story is simple enough that you won't get lost. It's set in the near future, 2010, in a section of France that would be equal to US projects, or basically, the slums. The authorities have built a wall around this section of the city to keep the drug lords and other unsavory characters separate from the rest of the city.
Leito, a young man who lives in B-13 with his sister, wages a one-man war against the leading drug lord of B-13, Taha. A little while later, news is that Taha has stolen a nuclear weapon.
The French authorities hire an undercover cop, Damien, to retrieve the nuclear weapon. Through many twists and turns, Leito ends up paired with Damien, to take down Taha and retrieve the nuclear weapon. Something just doesn't sit right with Leito about this "stolen" nuclear weapon thing. The information he's told about how it was stolen doesn't match up with facts. Leito thinks something else is happening but Damien just wants to get to the bomb and disarm it.
We end up finding out that the authorities actually intended to detonate the bomb in district B-13 to rid France of this scum.
There are many foot chase sequences that are blood pumping especially when you understand that these are done by the actors without wires. There are many fight scenes which are equally as exciting!
The latest word is that they are presently filming a sequel.
If you have a Blockbuster or Netflix membership, rent "District B-13". You won't be disappointed.
