I've always loved movies. Early on in my life they were mostly action and comedies that I liked, but as I'm getting older (pushing 50) I'm finding out I like an eclectic array of movie genres.
We have a subscription to Netflix and as an example of our eclecticism (?!), here's what our three movies were:
I don't have any favorite genre, and I don't prefer studio pictures over independents, I like pictures that appeal to me. That's why I can like something as big as "Titanic" and an independent film like "Lake Placid".
My favorites of late are:
I try not to let a movie disappoint me. I mean if there's a movie I really really have been waiting to see, I try to go to it with the attitude that I hope to enjoy it. If I don't as much as I wanted, then I didn't. I try not to let it bum me out and change my life.
Case in point, Episode 1 of the Star Wars series. That is probably the worst of the six, and I was really disappointed, but I just let it go. I've heard of those hard core fans who hated the film and vowed to never see another Star Wars film again and even sell their videos that they own. That's going a little over board.
We own many copies of the different versions of 4, 5, and 6, but I like the films overall. And Episodes 2, and 3 were better. Especially Ep. 3.
My biggest complaint about Episode 1 was that George Lucas had all these CGI toys at his disposal and he put them all into the film. My thing is, don't just do something because you can. Do it if it makes sense and furthers the story.
Anyway, that's the thing. I'll be posting more from time to time.
