Pirates of the Caribbean - At Worlds End

I've found my new favorite score and track.

Julie and I finally went back to the movies and saw POTC - At Worlds End.  And while the movie was great, the score was fantastic!

First about the movie; the filmmakers sure do have a great sense of imagination in all three of the films, but in my opinion they got to complicated with the story.  At Worlds End was real hard to follow that eventually I just watched the visuals and the score and didn't try to understand what was going on.  If they make a fourth episode, I hope they throttle back and just say, "Here's the story, A goes after B!", and leave it at that.  With their imagination they can still create a fun film but one that would make everyone happy because it's popcorn and people love popcorn because it's easy.  You shouldn't have to work so hard to follow a popcorn film.

Now the score; I've listened to many many scores in my life and heard so drop dead fantastic scores.  But after buying the score (I don't like using the word soundtrack because having been in the film business, to me that means all the sound in the film including foley, score, ADR, sound effects, etc) and listening to it once, I was able to emerse myself in just the music and what a joy it was!

I had such a good time listening to it the first time that I found myself playing it three more times in a row.  I usually listen to scores while I'm programming, it helps me concentrate sometimes and gives me a boost if its an action score.  I found myself writing code faster than I normally do listening to this score.

"Up Is Down"

One track jumped out at me while listening to it, and that was track #5, "Up Is Down".  If you've seen the film its when Captain Jack Sparrow is being "rescued" by his friends in Davy Jones Locker and tries to tip the ship over by running back and forth across the deck of the ship.  This track is only 2 minutes and 40 seconds but it's now my #1 favorite single track of all time.  (I have about 20 others that fill my top 10)

If you are a film lover and/or a lover of film music, let me know what you think about this score or any other that you've heard.
