Desert Willow - Mountain View Review

Lush, rolling fairways, good greens, great club house, friendly staff.

Hole 11 - Par-3 - 200 yards

The Mountain View course is only slightly easier than the Firecliff course, but a very worthy course to play.  Even in the middle of the Summer, this course was in great shape and a really good deal for $35.00.  From the back tees it's just under 7,000 yards and still fun, but watch out for the many large fairway bunkers and occasional water hazards.

Unlike Firecliff, the fairways are more generous and there's less chance to lose balls in the desert brush that line the fairways.  But water hazards do snake through some holes so local knowledge is important.  The greens this time of year were a little slow but they were still very playable.

If you are looking for a golf course with character and a great deal, Desert Willow has two to choose from.  One thing to watch when you are driving the golf carts, is when you get too close to the greens, the cart will show down to 2 mph.  Seriously! I found out the hard way.  It took forever to get back to the cart path.

And again, if you just want to practice, Desert Willow has a great practice facility.  The balls are fairly new.  Many driving ranges in the valley have horrible balls, no dimples.  That doesn't help your practice if you hit golf balls with no dimples, but that's not the case here.

I also had lunch there after the round and the food, the atmosphere and the service were all first rate.  I plan on playing both of these courses more often.
